Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha

This convent was founded in 1283 by the Abbess Dona Mor Dias, and given to Clarisse nuns shortly afterwards. Dona Isabel of Aragon, the Queen St Isabel, took an interest in the convent and had a new church built in Gothic style, consecrated in 1330.

Main Seminary (Seminário Maior)

Work on this began in 1748. In front of the buildings there is a formal garden, laid out in the 20th century but Baroque in style. The facade has 5 parts, the central one corresponding to the original church. The chapel is small but outstanding in terms of design and decor.

Church of the College of Graça
|

Founded by João III in 1543, it belonged to the order of Augustinian hermits. The church and cloister are some of the earliest examples in Coimbra of Renaissance classicism.

This Romanesque building dates from the late 12th century. The main doorway has geometric decoration similar to that of the Sé Velha (Old Cathedral).

In 1217, the wife of King Afonso II, Dona Urraca, gave a chapel to the Franciscans, who had just arrived in Portugal, to set up temporary quarters.
